Starting July 12 our branches will be open–no appointment needed! As state and local guidelines continue to ease, we are restoring our regular hours of operation at each of our branches. For everything you need to know about visiting one of our branches, what to expect during your visit and more, check out our FAQs below.

Still need help? We’ve got you covered through Live Web Chat on our website when you see the Need Help? icon, Telephone Reference by calling any of our branches, or send us an email

You can use the public computers, as well as browse our collection for materials to check out. You can also get a library card, pick up holds or spend time in one of our seating areas to study or surf the web.

Don’t forget the CCPL Online app! Download our library app today to be able to self-check out items while you’re in the branch, manage your library account and more.

Please note that appointments are required for Passport Services at Waldorf West. Visit our Passport Services Information Center for further details, and to make an appointment.

We are returning to our normal hours of operation.

Hours of operation:

  • Monday-Thursday: 9:00 AM-8:00 PM
  • Friday: 1:00 PM-5:00 PM
  • Saturday: 9:00 AM-5:00 PM

The Mobile Library and Outreach Van are also back on the road. Each vehicle is a mobile hotspot on wheels providing free WiFi access, and the Mobile Library offers materials check out, printing and program offerings. Visit our Mobile Library information page for more information and to find a stop near you.

All branches are still open for Curbside Pickup. Appointments are no longer needed, but we do request that at least one hour notice be given prior to a pickup request. Click here for more information.

There are no limits to the number of people allowed inside our La Plata, PD Brown, Potomac or Waldorf West buildings.

However, due to the limited space available on the Mobile Library vehicle, we will be limiting the number of people allowed inside at one time.

If  you are not able to come into the branch and would like to check out materials, you can browse our catalog online, place a hold, and then arrange for pickup by calling your branch. You can also place holds through Live Web Chat or Telephone Reference. And don’t forget about the CCPL App where you can place holds, use all of our digital resources and use the self-checkout feature to check out materials. The Mobile Library and Outreach Van also have limited materials that can be recommended by staff. Visit our Mobile Library information page to find a stop near you.

As of August 13, 2021 at 5pm, all visitors to CCPL will be required to wear a mask in our buildings. Charles County has reinstated the public mask mandate, and as CCPL is a county government facility we follow county health guidelines. The mandate requires that both vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals over the age of five wear masks at all public indoor locations in the county. Similar to previous mask mandates, some exceptions apply, such as when an individual is actively eating or drinking or individuals who have a disability that prevents them from wearing a mask.

  • Cleaning and sanitizing of our facilities will be done by staff as needed
  • All of our branches have been retrofitted with Plexiglas® safety barriers
  • Self-serve cleaning materials for customers will be available to wipe down computer keyboards, mice, printers, chairs, and any other frequently touched surfaces
  • Hand sanitizer will be available throughout each building and masks will be available upon request
  • Drinks with lids are welcome. The P.D. Brown & Waldorf West branches welcome snacks in their vending areas.

All book drops at all of our branch buildings are open 24/7 and available for materials to be returned. Customers with appointments will be able to return their materials inside the building. Returns can also be made to the book drops.

CCPL is now fine free! Although we are no longer charging fines for late items, it is still important that you return your materials by the due dates so that we can keep our resources and materials available to everyone.

Due dates for most library materials were extended for a final time to May 1, 2021. No fines will be charged for overdue items, but fees for lost/damaged/never returned items still can be incurred. For more information on Fine Free click here.

Mobile Hotspots may be returned by coming to the branch where it was checked out or by visiting the Mobile Library or Outreach Van.

Yes, customers can use our wi-fi while in the building. All seating and/or tables will be made available for use. However, we do have a few different options if you are only looking for WiFi:

  • All of our branch parking lots have free WiFi, no password required
  • We have outdoor tables at our branches as well to use the WiFi outside of the building
  • Our Mobile Library and Outreach Van are mobile hotspots on wheels, so visitors at one of their stops can access WiFi for free from their vehicles or within a 100ft radius
  • We also have a remote printing service that allows you to submit a print job through our online form and pick up via Curbside Pickup or by coming to a branch
