Ironheart: Riri Williams by Brian Michael Bendis

Ironman has fallen.  His consciousness lives on in an AI who now trains super genius teenager Riri Williams to become a new iron warrior.  But Riri has a lot on her plate.  Can she find a way to face her personal demons and save the world?  This volume collects Invincible Iron Man (2016) #1-11.

Ms. Krysta says: “Ironheart is a hero for a new generation.  Teenager Riri Williams has experienced a lot of pain in her life.  But now she works to make life better for others.  She does not always make the best choices, but she tries really hard.  Readers will find it difficult not to fall in love with Riri and cheer her on to success.  A perfect introduction to the Marvel universe for readers unfamiliar with its heroes.”

The Deep End by Jeff Kinney

In book 15 of the Wimpy Kid series, Greg Heffley and his family decide to go for a road trip.  But a summer deluge makes them rethink their plans.

The Doctor says: “All of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid books are great, and The Deep End is no exception.  Greg and his family are stuck in their grandma’s basement after the events in Wrecking Ball. Deciding they need a vacation, they go RV camping, but things take a turn for the crazy.”

Anti/Hero by Kate Karvus Quinn and Demitria Lunetta

Anti/Hero introduces two new characters to the DC universe!  Piper Pájaro is a thirteen-year-old with super strength who wants to become a superhero.  Her classmate Sloan Macbrute has a genius brain and is on her way to becoming a supervillain.  When the two switch bodies, they have to learn to work together to defeat a supervillain known as the Bear.

Ms. Faith says: “This book is a quick read that will keep you entertained the whole way through. With quirky characters, really bad bad-guys, and a problem that these two can not solve without each other, this book is a fast-past thrill ride. With a special guest appearance from Batman himself, you do not want to miss this adventure.”

5 Worlds series by Mark Siegel, et al

The Five Worlds are on the edge of collapse.  Only the lighting of the five beacons can save them.  But the sand dancers who possess the power to do so have been captured.  Now Oona Lee, the last sand dancer–and not a very good one–must travel across the worlds to save them.  But there are many who would stand in her path.

Ms. Krysta says: “This action-packed series introduces readers to a cast of lovable characters, including the earnest Oona Lee, her cyborg friend Jax Amboy (also a star athlete), and her friend An Tzu, who is disappearing slowly from a mysterious illness.  The danger-filled plot will keep readers on the edges of their seats, but it is the sympathetic characters who will steal their hearts.  This galactic adventure will also appeal to fans of the Amulet series.”

Cat’s Cafe by Matt Tarpley

Based on the webcomic, Cat’s Cafe introduces readers to a host of lovable characters who frequent the titular cafe, from Rabbit, who experiences anxiety, to Cat, who welcomes all with a cup of coffee.

Skylan B. says: “Cat’s Cafe is owned by Cat, a loving and supportive barista who always has a fresh cup of coffee for anyone. Cat’s Cafe takes place throughout the year and has many characters. I love this comic. It is cute and throughout the way, teaches you about happiness, loving yourself, and the love of coffee.”
