Charles County Public Library is celebrating 100 years of public service. Did you visit one of our branches in May, for our huge birthday celebration? Did you eat lots of cupcakes and chips and play cool games with your friends? Were you lucky enough to find a golden ticket?

Buster the Blue Crab had a blast at our party…he found a golden ticket and won a huge prize. But don’t be crabby that our birthday party is over because the fun has only just begun with our 2022 Summer Learning Challenge! Get ready to Celebrate CCPL’s 100 Years of Discovery as we roll out another fun and engaging summer full of fun challenges, big prizes, hands-on learning, interactive programs, and so much more. From May 16th through August 24th, all ages can participate in this imaginative program. Buster will show you just how easy it is to register for the challenge.

You can read about it via our website, learn about it from a friendly librarian or look at one of our in-branch displays. Here, Buster has scuttled over to our chalkboard and is admiring a staff member’s beautiful summer artwork. He is beyond excited to register for this challenge.

Next, you can visit the 2022 Summer Learning challenge page via our website to register. If you are in a branch, a librarian can help register you and your family via Beanstack. The challenge is split up into three age categories:

And just for registering, participants receive a *FREE Summer Learning t-shirt (*available while supplies last). Make sure to select a size that will fit…

Once you are registered, you can keep track of your points and “badges” earned (from reading books and attending various summer library programs) via a paper form (reading log) or online via your Beanstack account. Here, Buster is reading the Challenge guidelines…

…and smiling for the camera, of course.

Buster happily clutches his library card in his tiny claw, reviewing these first couple of  books for the challenge. He is eager to scuttle up to the front desk and show all of his fun selections to the librarian. Way to go, Buster!

Laura Bush Foundation for America’s Libraries:

Former First Lady of the United States (and former public school teacher and librarian) Mrs. Laura Bush understands the importance of early literacy. She has a special place in her heart for books and libraries and knows that a love of books goes hand-in-hand with a love of learning.

In 2001, she partnered with the Library of Congress to launch the annual National Book Festival. She also created the Laura Bush Foundation for America’s Libraries in an effort to provide funds to the nation’s neediest schools so that they can extend, update, and diversify the book and print collections in their libraries with the goal of encouraging students to develop a love of reading and learning. Please click here to learn more about the Laura Bush Foundation.

Every year, Mrs. Bush releases her official reading list for preschool, elementary, and middle school-aged children for the winter and summer seasons.
