Janaya Thompson

Janaya Thompson has more than fifteen years of professional experience in educational nonprofits.  She currently works at the American Association for the Advancement of Science as the Director of Program Finance and Administration.  In this role, she manages grant and organizational budgets and oversees program contracts. Prior to joining AAAS, she worked as the Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at the DC College Access Program (DC-CAP).  Her professional responsibilities have included oversight of finance and administration, management of college access offices within DC charter schools, and assisting students with enrollment and financial aid opportunities.  She has also worked as an Assistant Director of Admissions at Wilson College in Chambersburg, PA.

Ms. Thompson holds dual Bachelor degrees from West Virginia University in Foreign Languages and Philosophy.  In addition, she holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting, a Master of Science in Management with a concentration in Nonprofit Management, and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Maryland University College.  Ms. Thompson has also completed the Effective Leadership Institute conducted by Leadership Greater Washington.   In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her husband and four children, reading, and traveling. She has served on the Charles County Public Library Board of Trustees since 2013
