Pride 2021 is here and we’re kicking it off with reading lists of new and recently released LGBTQ+ titles! Some are specifically about queerness, and for others queerness is just one part of the author’s intersectional identity. This month, we will have book lists for all reading levels and ages, so be sure to check back for Part 2! We hope that you’ll find something here that resonates with you!

So why is it important to read books featuring LGBTQ+ voices to children?

During this month of celebration, there is no better time to discuss why Pride Month is so important. With rainbow Pride flags flying and events taking place all over the country, it’s likely that kids will be curious about the history and significance of this time.

As a caregiver, while it can be hard to know how to answer all of their questions or even how to present the information in a kid-friendly way, it’s important to talk openly about LGBTQ+ experiences and identity. No matter what your family looks like, books about pride, diverse families, and gender identities can teach kids a positive message about embracing differences and overcoming adversities.

Below you will find curated lists of both print and digital materials that CCPL has to offer. Print materials can be requested and picked up via our Curbside Appointments and digital materials just require a library card to check out (Don’t have a library card? Click here!). Board Books

These titles are suitable for our littlest readers, ages 0-3. They fit perfectly in their little hands, can be easily held, turned, stacked, and tossed, with bright and colorful illustrations.
