It’s always nice to destress reading by books that aren’t so heavy or too dark. It’s also nice reading a book with your children too! Here is a list of suggested graphic materials that you can enjoy anytime without feeling overwhelmed. Whether you are young or old, these books are worth your time at any age!

Lumberjanes Vol. 1 by Grace Ellis

Lumberjanes is a summer camp for “Hardcore Lady Types”, where Jo, Molly, Ripley, Mal and April work together to solve the mysteries, cryptids and who knows what else that hides in the woods.

The Georgia O’Keeffe College of Arts and Subtle Dramatics is an All Female school for mostly theater kids and very few athletic students. Liv wants to be an actor and play basketball and thought she was the only one until she met Charlie. Now they must find a way to get a team together.

Nathan Hale’s Hazardous Tales: The Underground Abductor by Nathan Hale

The Underground Conductor is the story of young Araminita Ross, the woman who became Harriet Tubman. Born into slavery, she ran away from her captors, risking her life for her freedom, to then spend the rest of her life helping others escape.

El Deafo by Cece Bell

El Deafo is the autobiography of a girl with a clunky hearing aid strapped to her chest trying to fit in at school. She realizes the hearing aid is too sensitive, picking up on sounds and conversations she shouldn’t be able to hear. She then begins to imagine she is a superhero, El Deafo!

Miles Morales, Vol. 1: Straight Out of Brooklyn by Saladin Ahmed, Art by Jaiver Garron

Going up against the Rhino and a new mysterious enemy as Spider-man, Miles tries to do his best trying to balance his school life and saving the day.  A great starting point for any new reader for the Ultimate Spider-man, Miles Morales!

In a local all-boys school, Jory tries to find a club for him. Eventually he comes across a team of stagehands who fight the secret paranormal dimension in the green room. Strange things are afoot behind the scenes.
