CCPL News : Library Board of Trustees Announces Vacancy

CHARLES COUNTY PUBLIC LIBRARY SEEKS TRUSTEE CANDIDATES
The Board of Library Trustees for Charles County is searching for candidates to be considered for appointment to the Board. Anyone interested in serving as a library trustee should submit a letter of interest and a brief resume by November 1, 2005 to Mr. Christopher Iekel, Board President, Charles County Public Library, 2 Garrett Avenue, La Plata, MD 20646-5959.
The seven-member, volunteer Board of Library Trustees is governed by the Annotated Code of Maryland, Education Article 23, Section 401 and Education Article 23, Sections 403-407. The County Commissioners appoint a trustee to a four-year term from a list submitted by the existing Board.
Trustee duties set by state law include: to provide free library services, set library policy, advise in preparation and approval of the annual budget, control and supervise spending of funds, adopt rules and regulations for use of the library, select locations and approve plans for library branches.
To qualify for appointment to the Library Board of Trustees, a candidate must be a resident of Charles County. Candidates should indicate commitment to carry out the duties of a library trustee, attend all meetings, and be a vocal advocate for libraries.
Interested persons should have a flexible work/personal schedule in order to attend budget hearings, meetings, and other activities on behalf of the library.
The Board welcomes letters of interest from community-minded citizens from all geographic areas of the county.
