Are In!
For the last 3 months, you've responded to a survey
regarding services provided on our website. We've received a lot
of great information and feedback. 94% of respondents were able
to find everything that they needed on the new site. 85% said that we
achieved our goal of easy navigation. Thank you for your
support. We'll keep working to make this site better. Listed below are
our responses and tips for some of your most popular comments. See if
your comment has been addressed.
1. Could you please
contact patrons by email for items that are on hold at the
library? Sometimes I don’t get my phone messages.
Beginning on May 2nd, 2005 we will be offering email notification
of holds and overdue items. The notices will contain the titles
of items you have on reserve (including our pick-up policy) or items
that you have overdue. If you would like to receive email
notification, please see a librarian to fill out a form to request this
service. Please remember to notify us if you change your email
address.
2. It would be nice to be
able to log in with something besides your library card number.
It is very cumbersome to find your library card and type in the very
long number and then also remember your PIN.
Library card numbers are impossible to remember and are notorious for
getting lost in wallets. We suggest writing down your card number
and PIN on an index card. This index card could be kept near your
home computer for easy access.
3. It’s great to be
able to renew items online! We love renewing from home!
We’ve had a lot of positive response about online renewal.
Unfortunately, certain items cannot always be renewed. In order
to make sure that all of your items have been successfully renewed, we
have one handy tip. After renewing your items, please go back to
your account and print out a copy showing the new due dates. This
will provide you with a receipt and confirmation that your renewal was
a success.
4. Why must we
enter a fourteen digit account number and a four digit pin number each
time a different area of the web page is accessed? This
requirement is very
cumbersome.
The good news is that you don’t have to type in your fourteen
digit account number and four digit pin number each time you wish to
request an item or check your account. Here is what to do:
click on “Library Books and Movies” under Find! and then
look in the lower right corner. You’ll see a box where you
can type in your library card number and pin number and then click on
the blue “Login to iBistro.” Once you have done this,
iBistro will remember your account and pin numbers while you are logged
on so that you don’t have to type them in each time you wish to
request an item, renew an item, or check your
account. You will still need to type in your library
card number if you wish to access any of our online databases.
5. I wish there was a way
to only search your catalog for videos or DVDs. All those book
titles really get in the way!
There is a way to restrict your catalog search to
only DVD or video holdings.
When searching our catalog, type your search criteria (title or
keywords) and then add the word "DVD" or "videorecording" in
parenthesis. A sample search would look like this:
Gone With The Wind
(videorecording)
Also remember that you can use the "Power Search" option to narrow your
search in other ways.
6. I would like a
homeschool link on the library site in order to get info from other
homeschoolers like me.
Our site now offers a homeschool link. It is located on the main
Kids Only page. Or you can go here.
